The story of the ragdolls begins from the 1960s from California. The pogenitor of the ragdolls was a medio-savage white angora-type of a cat. One day the cat got into a dangerous car-accident. After the accident the angora preferred being indoors and gave birth to kittens that spent more time people. The kittens appeared to be more sociable and sweet and felt slack when handling them. The neighbour of the cat´s owner took interest in the charming kittens of the angora and got a chance to have some kittens himself. With these cats he began producing a sweet race that was totally trustful on people. In 1969 Denny and Laura Dayton found the race and got the ragdolls a acknowledgement in most American purebred cat associations. As an outcome of their work an international success for the ragdolls became possible. Ragdoll is a cat that charms you with his blue eyes and soft appearance. But the most typical thing of ragdolls is their nature which is peaceful, sociable and easily attached to people. They are always there where the people are, participating in everything being done with the family. In fact they are more like dogs than cats and get deeply attached to their family.
The ragdolls have been named by their ragdoll-like appearance. When a ragdoll cat is being embraced it relaxes and feels as soft and slack as a ragdoll. This is a part of a personality, something the cat makes happen when it wants to. A ragdoll cat quickly adapts to its new family, likes children and usually learns to get along with dogs too. But as sociable cats ragdolls may suffer from loneliness. If all the persons of the family spend their days out of the house, the ragdoll will be better off with another animal to accompain it.
